ANYBODY CAN HAVE SAFETY EQUIPMENT: THIS INCLUDES PFDS AND HELMETS.
For the purpose of checking out gear, we divide all boaters into three categories:
Novice: (must have Advanced Paddler supervision to check out kayak)
Intermediate: (can check out kayak without supervision)
Advanced Paddler:
Novice: (must have Advanced Paddler supervision to check out kayak)
- UCMC Member in Good Standing
- Minimum Experience
- Demonstrate Wet Exit in a Kayak
- Must Paddle With "Advanced Paddler" on 1:1 ratio
- Participate in Official Course of Another Established Organization
Intermediate: (can check out kayak without supervision)
- UCMC Member in Good Standing
- Demonstrated Novice Skill
- Demonstrated River Roll 2/3 Times
- White Water 101 Course or Equivalent
- Pass "River Knowledge" Approved by Advanced Paddler
- "River Knowledge" Skills
- Catch Eddies
- Self Rescue
- Ability to Ferry
- Ability to Read Water
- River Signals
- River Etiquette
- "River Knowledge" Skills
Advanced Paddler:
- UCMC Member in Good Standing
- Demonstrated Intermediate Skills
- Demonstrated Class III Ability
- Demonstrated Rescue Training
- Demonstrated Trip Organization and Support Ability
- Responsible to Communicate with Gear Manager on Outgoing Trip Lists
